This policy explains how Friendly Deer collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use this website, get in touch, or work with and pay us. Last updated 8 October 2026.
Who we are
Friendly Deer is a trading name of Maeve McCabe, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. We are the “data controller” for the personal data described here. You can reach us any time at hello@friendlydeer.com.
What we collect
- When you contact us: your name, email address, organisation (if you give it), the type of project, and the message you send.
- When you work with us: your contact details, the invoices we send you and the payments you make, and notes from our conversations about your project.
- When you pay us: you enter your card or bank details on a payment page run by Stripe, not on our site. We never see or store your full card or account number. We keep a record of each payment, and the type and last four digits of the card or account it came from, so we can tell you which one we will charge.
- Technical data: basic server logs such as IP address and browser type, kept by our hosting to keep the site secure and reliable.
- Analytics:we use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics that don’t track you across other sites or store data that identifies you.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and talk through working together, on the basis of our legitimate interest and to take steps at your request before any contract.
- To invoice you and take payment, including taking care plan payments on their due dates if you have set that up, because it is needed for our contract with you.
- To keep accounting and tax records, because the law requires it.
- To keep the site secure and working, on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable website.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data or share it for marketing. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the studio, each handling data only for the job below:
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Neon: our database (Frankfurt, EU).
- Resend: delivering the email notification when you send a message (Ireland, EU).
- Zoho Mail: our email inbox (EU).
- Stripe: taking card and Direct Debit payments (Ireland, with some processing in the US). Stripe also uses payment information to prevent fraud and meet its own legal duties, as explained in Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Slack: our team messaging, where we are told about new enquiries and payments (US).
Where a provider handles data outside the UK, such as in the US, it is protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law.
Cookies
The site uses only the essential cookies it needs to work. Our analytics are cookieless, and we don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. When you pay, Stripe’s payment page uses its own cookies to keep the payment secure and prevent fraud.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry messages for as long as we need them to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterwards, then delete them. Invoices and payment records are kept for six years, because UK tax law requires it. Technical logs are kept only short-term.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- see the personal data we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete it, or restrict how we use it;
- object to us using it, or ask for a copy to reuse elsewhere.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
